Fishing the flats in southwest Florida can be pretty intimidating. Knowing which rod to use, what fly to cast, and especially where to fish, is a real challenge even for the most experienced angler.

That's why we invite you to come spend time with us at Casey Key Anglers & Outfitters once you're in the Venice area. Of course you can call us, or send an e-mail when you're planning your trip and we'll help you understand the tides, moon phases, and all of the other "techie" stuff that can help you catch more fish. More importantly, we'll give you the straight scoop on fishing conditions and which fly patterns are hot-hot-hot!

Naturally, our staff of professional guides can eliminate all of the guesswork if you'd like to book full-day, three-quarter, or half-day charters. We specialize in fly angling, of course, but also offer light-tackle charters from Tampa Bay south through Sarasota Bay, Charlotte Harbor, Pine Island Sound, and Everglades National Park.

We also have a complete e-commerce shopping cart, which means you can have a comprehensive package of all the right leaders, tippets, and flies delivered to your door ahead of time. Then you'll be ready to hit the flats running no matter where your angling adventures might take you.

Casey Key Anglers & Outfitters is the most complete specialty fly shop in southwest Florida. We feature rods and reels from Temple Fork Outfitters, Albright, and Cortland. Our selection of lines from Royal Wulff, Scientific Anglers, and Cortland is the finest in Florida, and one whole wall of the shop is dedicated to every imaginable fly tying material.

Oh, yes. It's called a "fly" shop for good reason. Our huge fly bin has hundreds of different patterns to meet every type of species, water condition, time of year, and whim of the angler. And if we don't have that one special pattern you've simply gotta have--we'll tie it for you on the spot!Come visit us soon.

FISHING SUMMARY

July 2009

We still have a lot of tarpon cruising the beaches and in the rivers.

Plus, there still are very large pre-spawn snook cruising the beaches, and redfish, sea trout and all the usual cast of suspects are out and about on the flats.

But right now the tarpon are crashing the nearshore beaches and the "babies" in the 20-to-60-pound class are actively feeding in the rivers.
